I was invited lecturer at the International Conference on Additive Technologies. I was talking about additive technologies in industrial design (jewelry design). On the conference my friend Dr. Igor Drstvensek also introduced me to Mr. Terry Wohlers (unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures with him :( but i gave him one of my lights.

Using additive technology, I designed a light, which was used for prizes at the conference.

Signet Ring - Gold model

The wax model was cast in gold and here is the results (material: white gold). This two models are rough and they are not polished or treated with some other process yet. Thous processes will follow on the next phase of development (in the meantime I am waiting for stones from Germany - hope that they will be nice with our coat-of-arms :)

This is the Signet ring for our family. I already made the basic shape of the ring (in Rhinoceros) and prepared it for 3D print. And than it will be caste in white gold and in the middle I will use stone called "Black coral".
At the moment I am working on a coat-of-arms (so, the lion on the render picture is only provisional and it`s made in Photoshop). For this purpose I am using interesting side about Heraldry.

Definitely one of the undisputable highlights of the festival, one of the top achievements of Slovenian animation and a short film in general. With a striking accuracy and a well applied touch of finery, it tells a story full of bitter-sweet truth. Using modern animation technique, the film can shamelessly match those from the best and the richest of the studios. The film makes chicory smell just like coffee. On behalf of all the viewers, we kindly thank the author’s wife for the patience she showed throughout the years.

Ring with stone settings

Sometimes we have to made very complex ring, with a lot of details, stone holes and form that can not be jet in rubber mold. In this cases, stereolitografy is a great choice that can be used.
I made the test ring (you can download the ring here) with stone settings in Rhinoceros and than I save the model in STL format for stereolitography (Digitalwax 029). In this process, we don`t need rubber mould to jet wax rings. So, we made a few models and put it directly to the tree (how the tree looks like).

Results: The rings were casted without porosity and the stones were fix inserted. The only problem was surface (the models needed to be extra handmade polished) and the space between stones (was not shiny). We also notice that the models made with Digitalwax 029 were a bit deformed, because the wax doesn`t harden instantly (but it runs a bit) .

My diploma paper

My final work for College was scenography with props for 3d animation, called "Chicory&Coffee". In this book I explore the history of 3D computer graphic, something about storyboards, limitations in 3d computer graphic ...etc.

The very core of my diploma paper also points out the way how the industrial designer thinks, how he sees the solutions and the importance of those solutions in animation. In this respect, we can realize the essence and importance of his knowledge, with which he can operate in any field and branch possible (within the context of his professional know-how and expertise). To enhance some interesting points, I also included the manners with which I solved some technical difficulties and compared them to world renowned studios and workshops.

Surprise flower

Life itself has always been an inspiration to us. Not only our life, but also the vital energy of other human beings surrounding us. Beside the fact that growing plants is existentially very important for people, it also fills them with enthusiasm, plants have a very calming affect on people, they produce oxygen etc.

We buy a neatly packed small pot with a seed sowed in it. The seed can be waken by removing the lid on the top of the pot. When the daylight breaks through, the story begins. That causes curiosity and interest which won’t leave us calm until the plant grows (we will curiously observe its growth every day guessing which sort of plant it is). Instructions, written on the inner site of the lid will help us grow the plant correctly (temperature, humidity, light etc…), but won’t reveal the sort of the plant.

Some people will get fond of the plant in that cycle, they will get to know it better, maybe turn their experiences over to others. Some of them will take it as a surprise, joy and a spontaneous moment. But all of them will experience a moment of anticipation and joy watching the birth of a new plant, which symbolically speaks of joy, hope and life.

Customer:
It offers a spontaneous moment of purchase to the costumer (it breaks daily habits and an excessively planned life). Costumers interests (what did she/he actually buy) will be aroused along with pleasant feelings of anticipation and finding out which plant will grow from their pot. (first we take a guess on the appearance of petals, we wait if the flower will grow…) Our curiosity causes that we like what we do and we feel well doing it.

Producer:
According to transport, maintenance and keeping is Surprise flower a very simple product (no need of light or a big glazed window). Life expectancy is much longer than by plants in full growth, which need daylight and have to be watered regularly.

Recommendation:
It would be reasonable to use well resistant seeds of plants, which grow relatively fast. Mineral material should be added to the soil, because it is indispensable for a successful growth of plants. There is an extra ring in the pot which absorbs the moisture, but when we open it, it takes over the function to cover the soil and in that way prevents germinations of weeds.

In the old days mayors of Ljubljana were giving away keys as a symbol of trust, friendship... to important people for there achievements and services.
This historical fact was our starting point and in cooperation with Zlatarna Celje, we designed a gift for the city of Ljubljana. The gift has a symbolic value like are love, luck, friendship (key is unlocking hearts...) etc. Keys are made out of silver.

Because of the test HDRI environment map you can see too strong reflections, but on the final picture this will be repaired with right map and will be much better of course.

The shop scene is now completed and it`s waiting for granny that she will be animated.

This scene was created for the short animation (Chicory&Coffee), that`s why everything is adapted to this (very low number of patches, some textures are used for the color and as a bump maps, details are solved with textures/bumps and I used very simple lightning because the render time is VERY IMPORTANT for us).

I am also working with Maya and 3ds Max and I have to say that this two programs are far more advanced (and it`s easier to make such a scene with them) than Animation Master (this is just my experience of course).

Interior/exterior lightning

I almost finished living room interior and shop exterior scene.
In the meantime we are doing some tests with lightning. Complex lightning (radiosity, global illumination, caustic effect...) can drastically extend rendering time (that`s what we can not afford since we don`t have big rendering farm), so will are going to fake what we can :)
For exterior (shop scene) we are going to use ambient occlusion (it`s relatively quick in Animation master).

I was invited by Bugbrain Animation Institute (Dusan Kastelic) to work on 3D "Chicory & Coffee" animation. After serious consideration I accepted the invitation (I will work approximately 1 year on this project).
I will work on concept design, modeling, texturing and lightning.

This visualization was made for my presentation of the concept at DrogaKolinska.

Why did I choose Flower form? Because this tea bag was made for their brand, named "1001 Cvet" (english: 1001 Flower).
Flower: simbol of love, inclination, attention, nature, smell, tenderness...etc.

I took a picture from a magazine (for reference) and tried to achieve similar lightning in 3D. Both pictures are made in 3D and rendered in Mental ray.

The main aim was to see Royal College of Art and Saint Martins. But I also spent some days to see the city, museums and galleries .
London was very pleasant for me and I enjoyed there.
